A finished floor-standing cabinet on a workshop floor, with a steel rack holding stacked sections behind it and a press brake further back

Industry · Manufacturing & industrial

The plant floor is not a data hall. The rack can still live there.

Dust, seasonal heat, vibration and a slab that is never quite level. None of that is a reason to keep the network cabinet in the office.

Site condition

What it changes in the specification

Airborne dust

Cleaning interval, cabinet position, and whether the row is enclosed.

Ambient swing

Where the supply air is taken from, and whether cooling sits inside the row.

Vibration

Load class and how the cabinet is fixed to the floor.

Uneven slab

Levelling feet, base frame, and how the row is coupled.

Forklift traffic

Clearance to the traffic lane and impact protection on the approach side.

Shared power

Reserved mounting position for the intelligent busbar and PDU, plus the earth path.

Airborne dust

Three actions

  1. 01 Position Keep the cabinet away from cutting, grinding and welding bays; put it on the clean side of the aisle.
  2. 02 Interval Mesh doors pass air and dust alike. Agree a cleaning interval and a responsible person before commissioning.
  3. 03 Enclosure Where dust is unavoidable, close the row: the mesh still passes air, but the aisle keeps the dust you cannot remove on the outside.

We do not print a protection rating on a mesh-door cabinet.

Air handling

  1. 01 Take supply air low.
  2. 02 Do not take supply air from above a hot machine.
  3. 03 Close the row when the room temperature is not yours to control.
  4. 04 Measure at the front of the rack, not at the wall.

Shared power

Distribution and earth

  • Power distribution cabinet — reserved mounting position for intelligent busbar and PDU
  • Grounding — front door, rear door and frame bonded at multiple points
  • After any floor work — re-check the bond from the row to the building earth

Next to a welding bay, the earth path is not a formality.
