Containment Roof Panels: Fixed Tops and Drop-Away Fire Panels
The roof is the part of a containment boundary that must do two opposite jobs: hold cold supply air inside the aisle, and surrender instantly when the sprinkler above needs the volume. RackForge resolves that with one 600 × 1200 mm module in three panel types — powder-coated steel where cable drops pass, tempered glass where you want eyes on the aisle, and drop-away fire panels whose fusible elements let go below 72°C and swing the flap 90° clear of the spray. Everything lays into support rails without site drilling, and the FA linkage test record ships with every order, serial-matched to the panels it describes. Fixed tops carry the LED strips and camera mounts; drop-away panels carry the one moving part in the whole boundary.

Six items on every roof delivery
Roof hardware is fire-critical, so the list is short and documented: every panel is either standing hardware or a tested safety device, and the paperwork travels inside the crate with the panels it describes. If an item below is missing from a delivery, treat it as a punch-list failure, not an option you can add later.

The one panel in the aisle designed to fail
A sealed ceiling and a sprinkler head want contradictory things, and the drop-away panel is the mechanical truce between them. Under normal conditions a fusible element holds the flap level, closing the boundary the same as any fixed panel. When the air around it passes roughly 72°C, the element lets go and the flap rotates 90° down — the ceiling opens before the sprinkler needs it, and water reaches the aisle face without a barrier in the way.
- Sprinkler geometry: released panels leave at least 70% of the area below the head clear, aligned to NFPA 13 expectations for obstructions under sprinklers.
- Two triggers: thermal release is standard; electric release on smoke-detector signal is optional for buildings where the detector leads the heat.
- Proof, not adjectives: the FA linkage test record logs release function per batch — the same document discipline as our load-test and pressure records.
- Closes on the same module: panels land on the 600 mm grid that the glass end doors and rack tops already follow, so one layout drawing covers the whole boundary.
